What is alopecia?
Alopecia is when cells in your immune system surround and attack hair follicles causing the hair to fall out. Alopecia happens suddenly, with no previous warning. There are a few different types of alopecia. The most common type is alopecia areata, this is when you lose small coin sized patches on you scalp. These can disappear and reappear elsewhere on the scalp or they can sometimes connect creating bigger more noticeable patches. The most known types of alopecia are alopecia areata (patches), alopecia totalis, (loss of all hair on the scalp) and alopecia universalis (loss of all hair on the entire body).
how can smp solutions help?
With scalp micropigmentation there is two ways we can treat the scalp if you have alopecia areata. Firstly there is treating the patches, this just fills in the areas with hair loss to conceal it. Secondly, we can treat the whole scalp. If your alopecia is unpredictable it may cause the patched areas to grow back but then cause new patched areas elsewhere on the scalp. The best option for this is to have SMP treatment all over the scalp, so if the hair grows back and disappears elsewhere, you still have full coverage so the patches are still camouflaged.Other forms of alopecia are usually treated by full scalp coverage.
